Split by Bookmarks

Processed locally — file never leaves your browser

Split a PDF into chapters based on its bookmarks / table of contents.

How it works

  1. 1

    Upload a PDF with bookmarks

Drop a PDF that has a table of contents or bookmarks panel. Textbooks, reports, and ebooks usually have these.

  2. 2

    Click 'Split by Bookmarks'

Each top-level bookmark becomes a separate PDF. Processing is instant and runs in your browser.

  3. 3

    Download each section

Click the download icon next to each section to save it individually.

Your file never leaves your device

This tool runs entirely in your browser using pdf-lib. Nothing is uploaded. Safe for Aadhaar, PAN, bank statements, and confidential documents.

Frequently asked questions

What if my PDF has no bookmarks?

The tool will show an error. You can use the Split PDF tool to split by page ranges instead.

Are sub-bookmarks included?

Only top-level bookmarks are used as split points. Sub-chapters remain within their parent section.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Everything runs in your browser using pdf-lib and PDF.js.
